ON TAIWAN TIME: Elephant Machine Coffee
While wandering around Dongmen in Taipei, we moseyed down a side street into a seemingly urban neighborhood. The neon sign beckoning "Elephant Machine Coffee" aroused our curiosity,
especially as it was time for an afternoon caffeine boost.
The entrance was welcoming with MORE neon lights!
The painting on the entry way floor of a jumping (or rolling?) man in a suit was a nice touch.
Taipei has a wonderful coffee and cafe scene with well designed interiors and careful attention paid to small details that make the experience all the more enjoyable. The playful lighting with neon paired with industrial steel equipment and cool clean lines made Elephant Cafe an instant fave in my book.
And they also had a nice espresso machine and set of coffee siphons.
Elephant Machine's speciality is cold brewed coffee.
We ordered the speciality flavored drinks; I got the refreshing mint-infused cold brew coffee, and Kaz got the "milky-way," a subtly sweet cold brew coffee topped with a sweet creamy foam.
Elephant Machine was our last stop before we had to fly back to Osaka.
There are so many great places to eat, drink and get coffee at in Taipei...
I wish I had more time and a bigger appetite to try everything I saw!
I guess I will have to go back again soon.

(PS from a camera nerd: When I got to this cafe, I changed to a new roll of film only to discover I had shot my ENTIRE trip in black & white. Words can not describe my annoyance with myself, as Taipei is a vividly colorful city and I was expecting vividly colorful pictures to be developed. After playing around with photoshop, I think I may have an interesting solution to my colorless dilemma. You'll see what I mean next time! ;)
