ROASTERS DELIGHT: Coffee Roughnecks

A few blocks south of the bustling hipster area of "Orange Street," Coffee Roughnecks is an Americana inspired hideout with specialty roasted beans to boot. It kind of reminded me of a mechanic's shop, but instead of fixing Harley's, this guy was fixing up some good coffee.

With a Fuji Royal roaster plunked down near the entrance and signatures of other fellow area roasters on the wall, you can tell this guy is serious about coffee.
Opened in February 2016, Coffee Roughnecks carries a selection of 4-5 different types of single origin beans, as well as a shop blend. With a no-fuss selection of medium to darker roasts, you can enjoy fresh coffee on the spot either by hand drip, espresso machine, or siphon.
Keeping with the Americana inspired interior design, Roughnecks has a sleek vintage replica of a  Faema espresso machine. The hand-made coffee drip stand was made by his plumber friend using metal plumbing pipes, which was innovative and a creative use of the narrow counter space.
I ordered the single origin Guatemala medium-dark roast by Hario V60 hand-drip method. Roughnecks coffee has counter seating, so you can watch the owner make your cup of joe up close.

Coffee Roughnecks also features a cheaper 200 yen 'take out only' option of a pot of serve yourself coffee on the counter, which is good for those on the go.
The last time I went it was a cloudy gloomy day, but good coffee and chatting with the owner about coffee really perked up my day (the owner is very friendly and also speaks great English).
(I keep forgetting to bring my camera here, so sorry for the crappy iPhone photos)
